Saartjie Bartman was taken from her home in Eastern Cape and brought to Europe during the 1800's. Saartjie was then put on display with little to no clothing for profit and comical leisure.
Suzan-Lori Park used this story as inspiration to create an underworld-circus for Venus to finally have autonomy.
